About the PLC
The life and ministry of the Church extends far beyond the front door of an individual parish. Combining our collective numbers and ideas from across the country helps to spread our ancient faith into the daily lives of more and more people. We demonstrate the unity of our faith each year as we meet together as one body in regional Parish Life Conferences and every other year we also meet for a Convention of the entire Antiochian Archdiocese.
As a result of Metropolitan ANTONY’s original vision, Archdiocese Parish Life Conferences (PLCs) have been held annually throughout North America since just after World War II. The emphasis in those early years was to help organize and promote Church Schools and Choirs. Metropolitan ANTONY also believed that young people in the Church needed to get to know each other better, so social activities have always been an important part of PLCs.
Today, competitions such as the Bible Bowl and the Oratorical Contest are essential PLC events, providing opportunities for our youth and adults to fellowship and grow in the one faith. Various organizations within the dioceses also meet to develop new programs to help us grow spiritually, reach out to others, and to fulfill the great commission. And the benefits of Orthodox believers, young and old, getting together to meet, worship, and just have fun together remain priceless.
July 4-8, 2007, Holy Cross Church of Linthicum, Maryland invites all Antiochian Orthodox, indeed all Orthodox of any jurisdiction, to join with parishioners of the Diocese of New York and Washington DC, and the Diocese of Charleston, Oakland and the Mid-Atlantic for our eastern regional Parish Life Conference. We promise you a time to worship, compete, and have fun at the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn northwest of Baltimore. This year’s conference features the theme of Missions, at home and abroad. Our speakers, workshops, discussions, and related activities will help us build up the one faith, in the one body of Christ that we might participate in Christ’s one mission in reaching out to the world with God’s love.
